StudyUp Studio is being shaped around a simple belief: learning works better when support responds to the learner's current understanding. The studio will bring together guided practice, clear explanations and purposeful digital tools — without taking the thinking away from the learner.

It brings mathematics, responsive technology and learning science together around a simple idea: identify what a learner can do now, then provide purposeful support toward the next reachable level of understanding.

Built around learning within reach.
The name Proximal is intentional. One of the ideas informing its development is Lev Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD): the space between what a learner can solve independently and what becomes possible with appropriate guidance or collaboration.
Proximal Math explores how digital technology can help make that support more responsive — offering challenge, prompts, feedback and practice while keeping the learner’s own reasoning at the centre.
This is an inspiration and design direction, not a claim that ZPD and “scaffolding” are identical concepts. Later scholarship has cautioned against collapsing the two.
